The Lord Gave Joseph Favour

Genesis 39:21 “But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison: and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.  The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the Lord was with him, and that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper.”

Joseph was greatly blessed and exalted by God.  He made the second in command under Pharaoh and was in charge of the world’s source of food during a great famine.  What made Joseph great, however, was not how he pushed his way to the front; it was his faithfulness in the unseen years of preparation.

Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers.  Instead of getting bitter, he worked hard and was diligent as a slave.  His master ended up putting everything he owned into Joseph’s care.

Joseph’s master’s wife tried to seduce him.  Day by day, she made advances toward him, but day by day, he maintained his integrity.  Even when no one was around, he fled from the opportunity to sin.

Joseph was then cast into prison because this lady lied about him.  In prison, Joseph was faithful in the little things and ended up running the whole prison for the jailer.

At every turn, things went wrong, but at ever turn Joseph was faithful and God was with Him.  Because Joseph did what was right and lives His life for the Lord, God blessed him and gave him favour in the eyes of all those that he served.  His faithfulness in the little things proved he could handle the big things, and one day God exalted Joseph to one of the most powerful positions in the world.

How faithful are you and I in the little things?  Do we maintain our integrity even when no one else is around or knows?  Until we learn to win the small battles, God will not give us big battles to fight.
